Nicholas Martin at Woodhall Spa
Our December Christmas Concert was given by our Hon. President, Nicholas Martin B.E.M. The weather was atrocious but that didn’t deter our enthusiastic audience who turned out in great numbers regardless. Their enthusiasm was repaid in full as Nicholas gave us a superb evening with just the right amount of festive music to make it different.
He began with a lively medley of military marches, followed by the “Romance” from “The Gadfly” by Shostakovitch and the “Trich Trach Polka” by Johann Strauss ll. There was some Latin American music in the form of “Tiko Tiko” followed by a lovely medley of Christmas music which included “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “The Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer”.
The second half opened with “Merry Christmas” and then a lovely “Sound of Music” medley which ran into “Music of the Night” and other tunes from “Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserables”. Dusty Springfield music with “I only want to be with You” followed plus “Sweet Caroline”, “Telstar” and some Cilla Black songs. He then played some more Christmas music which included “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”. The concert concluded with “The Holy City” and “12th Street Rag”.
Nicholas really gave us a tremendous concert and a wonderful evening to remember, despite the appalling weather outdoors!
