OUR OCTOBER CONCERT

WITH MARK THOMPSON

    Mark Thompson at Woodhall Spa

Unfortunately our October concert with Mark Thompson coincided with the arrival of the first named storm of the winter and the weather was atrocious, which consequently reflected on our audience numbers. However, 45 brave souls ventured out and their enthusiasm was rewarded by a superb evening of music provided by Mark, which opened appropriately enough with a medley containing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"! Mark brought along his Electronic Piano, as well as his trusted Yamaha EL900 and played a number of pure piano pieces during the evening. Also during his first half Mark played a medley of 1974 tunes which included "The Locomotion", "The Entertainer" and "Waterloo". This medley was  performed on both the organ and the piano and saw Mark leaping between the instruments for the different tunes! The second half of the concert opened with "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "Put another Nickel In". These were followed by the Anthony Hopkins waltz "And the Waltz Goes On" which Mark played beautifully in the style of the Andre Rieu performance. There followed a variety of music including "La Vie En Rose" and Leroy Anderson's "Fiddle Faddle". Back to the piano Mark played the Shostakovich "2nd Waltz" and a little jazz with "Mack the Knife". The concert concluded with "Twisting the Night Away", "Rock Around the Clock and "Blue Suede Shoes" and his encore was appropriately "We'll Meet Again". A great concert which was really enjoyed by our audience.

Our concert next month will be played by Tony Stace and takes place on Friday, November 7th  at Coronation Hall, Spa Road, Woodhall Spa, LN10 6PZ. We look forward to seeing you all.
